Learn More about How We Perform a Root Canal
When a tooth’s pulp becomes infected from deep decay, a large filling, severe gum disease, or trauma, it becomes irritated. Within the pulp, bacteria grows, builds pressure, and causes a toothache. A root canal is needed to treat this infection.
At Dentistry on Vine, we’ll review your dental history and provide you with a detailed consultation before we decide to perform root canal treatment.
Here’s how we treat a root canal at Dentistry on Vine:
Step One: To relieve any discomfort, we apply an anesthetic and numb the affected tooth.
Step Two: Our dentist isolates the tooth and makes an opening through the crown of the tooth into the pulp.
Step Three: We remove the diseased pulp. Then, we clean, shape, and enlarge the root canal area within your tooth. In many cases, we permanently seal the root canal and pulp chamber.
Step Four: We use a temporary filling until your follow-up visit.
Step Five: Finally, we fill and seal the pulp chamber permanently with a filling or a crown. Once we’ve completed this procedure, the affected tooth becomes fully restored.
During our root canal therapy in St. Catharines, clients receive care and empathy from our staff. You’ll enjoy a team of empathetic dental professionals at Dentistry on Vine, including two dental assistants and two dental hygienists.
