Dental Sealants
For years, dentists have applied dental sealants to teeth. The plastic material protects the tooth from bacteria and acids that cause decay. As technology improves, more and more patients are using dental sealants for their teeth.
At Dentistry on Vine, we understand that brushing and flossing can’t reach all of the depressions and grooves of a smile. To protect vulnerable areas, we recommend dental sealants in St. Catharines.
For our adult patients, we most commonly apply sealants to permanent molars. In many cases, tooth decay begins in the pits and fissures of the back teeth. As a result, the back molars become a vulnerable spot.
What to Expect from Your Appointment
If you are ready for a dental sealant in St. Catharines, make an appointment. Expect the following from your visit to our dental clinic:
Preparation of the Tooth. Our dentist will clean and prepare the teeth you plan to seal. Your dentist will then remove plaque, debris, and isolate and dry the teeth. Other preparatory measures (like etching and more drying) will be made.
Application of the Sealant. Once the tooth is prepped, we’ll apply the sealant and use an ultraviolet light to harden the product. This step only takes a few minutes.
Evaluation of the Sealant. Once the sealant has hardened, your dentist will evaluate the product and ensure the effectiveness of the sealant, after that you’ll be free to go.
Depending on your chewing patterns, your newly placed sealant could last for many years.
